Philip Morris (China) Management Co. Ltd. was founded in 2003 and now has around 100 employees in China. Our China HQ office is in Beijing and we have branch offices in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu.
NEW BUSINESS VISION AND CULTURE
When we asked ourselves: “how long will PMI be in the cigarette business?”, we feel the responsibility and urgency. We made a bold decision “Designing a smoke-free future”, by offering adult smokers better choice to cigarettes.
PMI believes that employee engagement is the key to the success of our energizing vision. We promote the new ways of working, making decision based on the understanding of consumer/customer needs and create value. We emphasize on improving information flow and transparency within the organization. For example, in order to accelerate the decision-making process, we hold regular meetings for business and projects updates to generate greater collaboration and faster feedback among staff beyond the management team.

PMI deems it important to focus on the enhancement of employee experience. To better fulfill employees’ needs on the benefits, we build up our FLEXability program. We provide Life Insurance and Health Insurance to all fulltime employees and options for their dependents. We also launched flexi benefit platform to offer employees freedom to customize based on their needs.

To better fulfill employees’ personal needs, we provided flexible working hours, remote working arrangement, emergency leave and sabbatical leave.
SPECIAL MEASURES TO ADDRESS LOCAL SPECIAL NEEDS
Special measures are taken to address the air pollution in China. We provide transportation support to employees when the air quality index is higher than 300 and encourage the employee to work from home after alignment with supervisor when the air quality index is higher than 400. The air purifier machine is installed in both the office and working tool car to reduce the employee’s exposure to the pollution.
We care about the health and wellness of the employees. Our staff club organizes different relaxing and leisure activities such as gathering, fitness, cheese tasting, Chinese medicine therapy, and floriculture salon to promote a happy and healthy workplace. We also provide fancy pantry where offer free coffee, tea, herbal drink, juice and snacks for employees’ refreshment.
The HQ office was renovated two years ago to create a comfortable, inspiring and collaborative environment that foster communications and innovation. The design concept behind the new office is to deliver an inclusive and collaborative workspace for our people, by introducing new facilities such as the phone room, gaming room, nursing room and cafeteria. We minimized the walls and barriers to encourage collaboration in the office, seamless connectivity and conversation. Employees’ health is always our focus. Plant wall was installed to increase the oxygen. Sculpt ergonomic desktop and chairs can better fulfill the human body requirement.
OPEN SOURCING, EMPLOYEE-DRIVEN CAREERS
Uphold the concept of employee centricity, we believe careers should be driven by employees themselves according to their interests, preference and timeline. We embrace a combined methodology of “top down” and “bottom up” approach. To endure we attract the best talents both internally and externally, we launched the “Open Sourcing” initiative in 2017 by opening all job opportunities across different affiliates to both internal and external talents. We encourage employees to plan their next move, actively seek career advices from their supervisors, and pursue the position they desire. During the interview process, our colleagues will also collect quality feedbacks from hiring managers for better preparation for next move.

We keep on upgrading our on-line learning solution and blended learning journey. We also believe that learning from the work is more powerful. We have concrete assignment plan, from international assignment to domestic relocation. Every year, there are around 10% employees are under the assignment program, including international and domestic assignment.
