Headquartered in London, the HSBC Group is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. In Taiwan, the first branch was established in Taipei In 1984. In 2009, HSBC obtained approval to set up a local subsidiary in Taiwan – HSBC Bank (Taiwan) Limited. Taiwan plays a key role in HSBC’s Greater China platform and is one of HSBC’s key growth markets in Asia.

HSBC implements a capability and values-orientated selection scheme to ensure we hire the right people. In 2017, we engaged ourselves with technology applications to adopt a platform for online assessment and interview, this brings a brand new experience for candidates with an efficient and flexible approach.
EVERYDAY PERFORMANCE AND DEVELOPMENT, TIMELY STAFF MANAGEMENT AND DEVELOPMENT
The implementation of Everyday Performance and Development aims to guide and encourage people managers and staff to conduct frequent, holistic and meaningful check-in conversations. Subjects include but are not limited to Performance Management, Personal or Career Development, or staff’s personal/family situation, which ensures timely performance management.
WELFARE POLICY THAT SUITS PEOPLE’S NEEDS
HSBC values our staff’s livelihood outside of work. In addition to our leave policy that exceeds the Labour Standards Act, and 2 days of voluntary leave per year, we also offer flexible working hours and welfare scheme for spouses (same-sex or opposite-sex). HSBC pays attention to the needs of each and every staff.
ONLINE LEARNING PLATFORM THAT SUITS DIVERSE LEARNING NEEDS
HSBC provides a series of training that covers induction, professional and management skills, to HSBC culture and soft skills training. The HSBC University is a platform for staff to search for recommended courses that are related to their job/ roles. There are a wide variety of learning resources, included but not limited to Instructor-led classroom training, e-learning, TED videos and reading materials, to ensure it fulfills diverse learning needs.
ENCOURAGE DIVERSE EXPERIENCE, TRAIN THE FUTURE LEADERS
HSBC has a diverse internal transfer scheme, for example, internship at other departments, short-term attachment at other countries etc., we encourage staff to learn from daily work, and train themselves to be future leaders! In 2017, more than 500 staff have been promoted or internally transferred to another department. 88% of supervisory vacancies are filled through internal transfer and promotion.
HSBC’s International Manager Programme offers only 10-15 seats each year globally which is a very competitive programme. In the previous 3 years, 3 Taiwan staff passed the selection process and got an opportunity to join the programme as group-wide talents.
STAFF ENGAGEMENT ACTIVITIES
The Staff Engagement Club (SE Club) gathers staff from different department and aims to support the bank to fulfill its strategy – Make HSBC the Best Place to Work. The SE Club organises activities to enhance staff engagement based on result of the bank-wide employee survey. Since 2007, the SE Club has organized countless events such as “Ask Top Management”, “Staff Transfer Policy”, “Career Expo.”, “COO Express”, to provide the senior managers an opportunity to listen to staff’s feedback thus making our work environment better. An award named “Talent Builder” has been set up to reward outstanding people managers. “Let’s SHINE” is an event to ensure employee can be seen and “HSBC 1999” provides a channel for staff to reflect their questions. “Christmas Deco Competition” invite staff to decorate working environment to welcome Christmas. The SE Club is leaving its footprint on every steps we make to shape HSBC as The Best Place to Work.
