Headquartered in London, the HSBC Group is one of the largest banking and financial services organisations in the world. The first Taiwan branch was established in Taipei In 1984. In 2009, HSBC obtained approval to set up a local subsidiary in Taiwan known as the HSBC Bank (Taiwan) Limited. Since then Taiwan’s business continues to play a key role in HSBC’s Greater China platform and is one of HSBC’s key growth markets in Asia.

VALUES LED HIGH PERFORMANCE CULTURE
Our values define who we are as an organisation and what makes us distinctive. We believe in acting with courageous integrity. These values include:

BEING DEPENDABLE

  • Standing firm for what is right, delivering on commitments, being resilient and trustworthy
  • Taking personal accountability, being decisive, using judgment and common sense, empowering others

OPEN TO DIFFERENT IDEAS AND CULTURES

  • Communicating openly, honestly and transparently, welcoming challenge, learning from mistakes
  • Listening, treating people fairly, being inclusive, valuing different perspectives

CONNECTED TO CUSTOMERS, COMMUNITIES, REGULATORS AND EACH OTHER

  • Building connections, being aware of external issues, collaborating across boundaries
  • Caring about individuals and their progress, showing respect, being supportive and responsive

HSBC HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT MODEL
The foundation of the HSBC Human Capital Development Model is a combination of HSBC Leadership Capability and HSBC Values, which are embedded in our day-to-day processes of Talent Selection, Performance Management, Learning and Development, Talent Development and Succession Plan, in addition to Staff Engagement. All functions are closely connected to each other, which enabled HSBC to become the Best Place to Work.

BUILDING THE HEALTHIEST HUMAN SYSTEM
By making itself the Best Place to Work, HSBC has embedded the Healthiest Human System globally which includes three key themes: Work-life balance, Culture and behaviours, and Well-being. By encouraging Work-life balance, we support our people managers in understanding our staff’s personal needs through regular check-in and provide benefits (which is above what the labor law required) and flexible working programme to support staff’s specific needs. By embedding Culture and behavior, we continue to strengthen the culture and behaviours of supportiveness and encourages our staff to “speak up” about their feelings and thoughts. Finally, for the part on Well-being, we care not only about staff’s performance but also physical and mental health. Thus we have the Employee Assistance Programme to support staff and make staff stronger and better.

NURTURE FUTURE TALENTS FROM UNIVERSITIES
HSBC has always dedicated itself to nurture future talents. In addition to its well-established and worldly renowned Global Graduate Programme and Internship Programme, in 2019 we hosted the HSBC Business Case Competition to enhance young talents’ “further skills” through the English business case competition and training sessions. This will also provide students from universities a platform to connect with the international business and finance community and opportunities to exchange with young talents from other countries.

HSBC – THE BEST PLACE TO WORK
In 2018, in addition to being recognized by HR Asia as The Best Company to Work for in Asia, HSBC was also awarded the Work-Life Balance Award by Ministry of Labor – for which HSBC Taiwan was the only awardee from the financial institution sector. With the various staff engagement events we have hosted in the past decade, and the various recognitions and awards we have won, we believe that HSBC has indeed embedded the Healthiest Human System and is truly The Best Place to Work.
