Every single industry is feeling the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. With nations around the world reporting an ever increasing number of infections, the economic impact of the coronavirus is severe. None has been affected as badly as the tourism sector however. Global travel has come to a near standstill as countries are closing their borders and implementing lockdowns.
Up to 50 million jobs are at risk, with Asia being the most affected continent. In Malaysia, it is projected that the number of job losses could be an estimated 2.4 million, of which 67 percent are unskilled workers. Many financial firms operating in Singapore and Hong Kong are also reporting delays in hiring as the coronavirus outbreak continues to disrupt their businesses.
However, not all industries are suffering from reduced business and the threat of closure. Data from LinkedIn showed a demand for workers in roles that are on the frontlines of helping the countries to navigate this pandemic, and are critical to supporting the rapidly-changing healthcare and infrastructure needs of the country.
Based on LinkedIn job posts in the month of March 2020, the following are some of the most in-demand jobs:
1.) Store Associate
2.) System Operator
3.) Certified Public Accountant
4.) Healthcare Specialist
5.) Construction Worker

As we can see, the demand for health and medicine workers are skyrocketing as the need for more medical personnel has become paramount amid the COVID-19 outbreak. Food delivery services are also seeing a huge surge in hiring as demand for food is increasing as more and more countries implement lockdowns and Movement Control Orders.
Retailers and wholesalers are also seeing a large increase in demand as consumers scramble to stockpile as many goods as they can with the limited amount of travel they are allowed to do.
Countries in Asia are in a similar situation with the F&B industry seeing a boom alongside food delivery services. Apart from these, logistics and utilities companies are also experiencing peak demand.
Tech and infrastructure positions that are looking to be filled. These are incredibly important, especially with regards to keeping the internet working. With many workers now being forced to work remotely from home, connectivity via the internet is the only thing keeping many companies operating during these trying times.
