Approximately 200,000 or 1.42% of women in the country are unemployed as at December last year. Human Resources Minister Richard Riot Jaem, however, did not disclose the factors or reasons for these women to be unemployed. He said 7,519 or 44.7% out of 16,821 women who participated in the part-time job placement programme, however, had managed to secure jobs. Women are also encouraged to earn extra income by venturing into micro or small businesses through the 1Azam programme, as well as the Get Malaysian Business Online programme for online businesses, he said.
